STRATEGY, DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION FOR INTERNATIONAL INSURANCE CLIENT

NHQ provided consultation to our clients on how Activity Base Working could increase flexibility, improve staff performance and drive commercial results.  We were then asked to project manage the delivery of the design concept across 3 floors of the UK Headquarters.  The office design blueprint needed to be transferable across all our client’s UK sites.

OUR CHALLENGE

Unum is a global insurance business who protect almost 1.4 million people in the UK and 37 of the top FTSE 100 companies. The client required a comprehensive review of its operating model, departmental adjacencies and space utilisation which could then be developed into an Activity Based Working model. The in-situ project had to be delivered by moving entire floors of staff elsewhere in the property as the phases of the project progressed.

THE NHQ DIFFERENCE

Our Time Utilisation Study revealed that formal meeting rooms averaged 40% occupancy whilst a central zone intended for staff collaboration peaked at 18% occupancy. We quickly developed a design recommendation where the traditional cellular operating model was discarded in favour of a predominantly Agile-Working model, breaking down departmental barriers and bringing all the internal talent and resources within easy reach of staff. To keep the transition seamless and deliver the change management successfully, our client invited us to project manage the entire process to completion.
